Proven Artificial Hard Baits and Plastics

We all know what it’s like to stand in the fishing isle at Walmart and become overwhelmed with the hundreds of artificial baits. And sometimes you know, and sometimes you hope, what you’re buying will catch fish.

I’ll be the first to admit to this quandary. Been there done that. But over the years I’ve narrowed down some pretty awesome lures that Produce Fish. Of course there are techniques to work these baits and I will explain. Usually you buy a certain lure for the fish your going to target. And this holds true for the most part. There are certain lures that will catch a wide range of species. There are a lot of factors involved.

Ok do you want to target Redfish? Gotcha!  Let’s discuss a few things. Depending on where your fishing, what the tide is doing, the clarity of the water, and is it hot as snot out? These are the conditions that determine what lure, or plastic to use. It’s not as hard as you would think. Just some basic rules. But, knowing these so called “guide lines” will be the difference in producing fish

Let us create a scenario:

It’s early mornin and the water is glass calm. You’re on a slow drift on the flats. It can be grassy, oyster bars or rocks on the bottom. You see no fish activity to speak of but it looks real fishy. Perfect, my favorite condition. Don’t forget it’s morning, nice and cool, or at least not sweltering.

Number one early morning REDFISH MAGNET!   LilPup  by MirrOlure. Water is kinda murky? Perfect!. Choose the Green/White Lure.  If you don’t have the skill of Walking The Dog, acquire it. There is Nothing better than a Top water explosion in flat calm water. Here’s the technique of working it, after you’ve figured out how to.  SLOW…..Again I’ll tell you…SLOW. pop……..pop…….pop……..pop.  Not- pop.pop.pop.pop .About 15 pops every 30 seconds.

Work it slow. Guess what? You just got the attention of every fish within 50 yards and they are zoning in on your LilPup. If a Redfish comes looking, I’ll tell you this for a fact. 9 out of 10 times he will miss on the first strike. That’s awesome stuff because you can see it happening. A huge boil or splash right at your lure. What do you do? Don’t miss a beat. Pretend it never happened, keep it moving nice and slow.

He’s looking for it, and the popping will lead him back to it. This time he wont miss. Guarantee it Fishin friends. Also if there are snook in the area they won’t be shy at all.  They get it on the first hit. I’ve caught both on the same flat one after another.

Also this lure is very effective at dusk. Dusk and Morning is when Top Water Lures work Best. I’ve uploaded a video teaching how to work the LilPup and his brothers. Check it out it’s awesome

Walking the Dog

These lures also come in 4 1/2 -4 3/4  and 3 1/2. My preferred size for flats fishing is 3 1/2. All of these Hard Baits by MirrOlure are very effective, and would encourage you to take some time and try them in your favorite spots.

There is more info to come in my next Blog. We will discuss Plastics
